Vice Chancellor’s Message

I welcome you to the Uganda Christian University (UCU) website.
Our mission and commitment are to “Equip students for productive and holistic lives of Christian faith and service.” The Church of Uganda founded UCU in 1997, to be an authentic Christian university, one of its kind in Uganda at the time, where students would be nurtured to reach their full potential and completeness. The Church pioneered education at primary and high school level decades ago. In founding Uganda Christian University, the Church intended to bridge the gap created between Church-founded Christian schools and Christian higher education to complete the education cycle.

The university inherited the pristine and Edenic campus facilities of the Bishop Tucker Theological College. In 2013, the UCU Main Campus was voted among the 50 most beautiful Christian campuses worldwide. This young university is today spread across Uganda with five campuses to her credit: The Main Campus situated at Mukono, UCU Kampala Campus, UCU Arua Campus, Bishop Barham University College in Kabale and UCU Mbale University College.

UCU has several international memberships. For example, to bolster her Christian identity, she is an affiliate international member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and of the International Association for the Promotion of Christian Higher Education (IAPCHE). UCU also has a number of partnerships with other universities globally.

Uganda Christian University has received many acclamations during her short history. The first defining achievement was on May 20, 2004, when UCU received her University Charter, the first private university in Uganda to attain this recognition. Today, UCU’s impact has defined the education landscape for higher education in Uganda and beyond, as other universities often benchmark with UCU. The graduates of UCU are much sought after in the marketplace; employers ordinarily call on the university to recommend UCU graduates for jobs. Indeed, UCU was ranked second in graduate employability in Uganda by The New Vision survey in March 2015.

Our education is intentionally student-centred, allowing for intense community engagement. Our community functions allow for healthy interface between students and staff to model for students our Christian life.

The University Theme aptly defines the education offered at UCU: “A Complete Education for A Complete Person”, as we endeavour, according to the University Mission, which is to train a cadre of graduates for “Productive, holistic lives of Christian faith and service”, nurtured in every way to meet the challenges of gainful and productive work after their university studies.

I am, together with my colleagues at UCU, privileged to give our students a world-class education that produces locally, regionally and globally competitive graduates, an opportunity where students and staff are a family, and a place where learning takes place in a serene environment. Education at UCU employs rigorous academic engagement and purposes to transform the learner’s values and outlook on life. This has validated our graduates over the years wherever they have gone.

A student who studies at UCU walks out with their academic transcript on the day of graduation. UCU is a pioneer of this practice in Uganda. However, we believe that we must give our students more than a paper degree; they need to get a life-changing experience that will stay with them. That way, they carry away a piece of UCU in their hearts and life.

In choosing a university to attend for your higher education, you must bear in mind the end product that you will be and the reputation of the institution you will carry to your work or employment. Therefore, I strongly urge you to consider having your higher education at Uganda Christian University; you will not regret it.

Become a friend and partner in this unique education journey that UCU offers. Please visit our website to know more about what UCU has to offer and why UCU should be your university of choice.

May the LORD Jesus Christ bless you!
Amen.
